NYI.NET Gets a New Look, New Features
As you may have
noticed, NYI's website has undergone a complete redesign over the last couple
of months. This was done to enhance usability, navigation and the overall
experience of visiting the site. We have also added many features to not only
upgrade the look of the site, but to make it a one stop portal for your data
center and web hosting needs. Nearly every service combination and situation
available has been accounted for in NYI's new and improved quote generators. An
enhanced order request/request for proposal section for needs outside of the
realm of the quote generators makes requesting more information a snap. The
turnaround times for order requests with our new system are unparalleled and
oftentimes individuals get calls or emails immediately. The key features
include:
- Compressed images and graphics to facilitate speedier navigation
- Text only site for lower bandwidth applications (http://nyi.net/textonlysite/index.html)
- Enhanced sitemap (http://nyi.net/sitemap.html) for one
stop navigation of the entire site
- Keyword area to assist in searching the site for specific needs
- Enhanced promo code system so special packages given by NYI sales reps can be
viewed immediately and ordered securely online
This is yet another step on NYI's mission to revolutionize the means with which
data center providers supply information and services to clients and potential
clients. The new site design allows for quick and efficient access to
information regarding all aspects of the colocation, dedicated server, or
hosting experience and allows users to get pricing and availability in real
time. At NYI, we continue to upgrade our offering every day and urge you to
visit our website often and give us feedback on our efforts.

What's
Up on Whatsdown?
When a system of yours has trouble, it may be difficult to objectionably
diagnose it unless you have the right tools. In an effort to help our clients
have all the resources they need, we've set up a multi-use toolbox available at
http://www.whatsdown.net/.
There you will be able to diagnose connectivity problems from multiple
locations (not just from NYI's network), as well as port scan your system(s)
for possible insecure services. In addition, we have a mail server test to
identify if your mail server has an open relay which could add to the
internet's already rampant unsolicited mail problem. Your system may get
black-listed if you do not clear such problems up.
We are accepting suggestions on how to further improve this toolbox for
network/system diagnosis/troubleshooting so if you have any ideas on how to
improve it, please drop us a line at support@nyi.net and we'll try to accommodate
you as best we can. back to headlines
NYI
Gets the Seal of Approval
The New York Internet Company is proud to announce that last
month it received the BBBOnLine Reliability Seal from the Better Business
Bureau, the organization whose purpose is to report on reliability of
businesses as well as alert consumers of any business "scams".
Apparently, NYI has met all BBBOnLine Reliability participation and Better
Business Bureau membership standards. Hey, we've told you we were good

Q
& A
Why Doesn't NYI Utilize Bandwidth from Williams and
Cogent?
We do not utilize networks such as Williams and Cogent because of their
reputation in the industry. While they are the cheapest wholesale bandwidth
solution out there, they attract clients of an illegitimate nature; that is
spammers, adult web hosts, irc servers, etc; and this causes their network to
be undesirable at the more mission critical level. We maintain transit from
only top tier providers such as UUNet, Genuity, Qwest, Allegiance Telecom, etc.
as well as peering connection with public exchanges such as NYIIX.
In the long run, you will be much better off with non-Cogent bandwidth as it is
sure to provide more stability and lower latency. There are companies out there
that offer uncapped or unmetered bandwidth and claim a full 100 Mbps for your
connection, but often times this is an oversold connection to a second or third
tier provider. It is in your best interest, as a reputable, growing Internet
company, to figure out your network utilization and put your servers on a good
network with the correct amount of bandwidth allotted; rather than a poor
network that makes unrealistic promises.
Does NYI
Manage Colocated Servers?
Colocation solution implies that the client will provide the administration for
his/her server while NYI is responsible for the stability and functionality of
the network. The operating system installation (or reinstall) is as far as we
will go; the rest of the administration must be done by your administrators
remotely once the server is online.
Are NYI's
IP Blocks Portable?
The IPs we assign are not portable, but will be swipped with your information,
so if there are any problems, you will be the contact.
